Dr. Cheryl DeYoung
Dr. DeYoung is the co-owner and veterinarian of Bedford Highway Veterinary Hospital. She is a 1994 graduate of the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island. She was born and raised in the Waverley area. Dr. DeYoung and Dr. Jim Gillis have operated the hospital since January 2005. She is pictured here with her Golden Retriever 'Buddy'. She has a special interest in companion animal surgery and feline medicine and is a proud member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Dr. DeYoung and Dr. Gillis and their son Noah share their home with Kingston the Golden retriever and O'Mallie the rescued tabby cat.

Dr. Jim Gillis
Dr. Gillis is co-owner and veterinarian at Bedford Highway Veterinary Hospital. He first obtained a degree in marine biology from Dalhousie University and then obtained his DVM degree at the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island in 1993. Dr. Gillis loves all aspects of small animal medicine. He has special interests in cancer medicine and orthopedic surgery and has been performing cranial cruciate repairs in dogs and cats for 22 years. He is still involved in aquatic animal medicine and has worked with marine mammals and many species of fish. He and Dr. DeYoung share their home with Kingston the Golden Retriever and O'Mallie the rescued cat. He has lived in all three maritime provinces, but calls metro Halifax home
